The Cold Stare of Molly Hammer

I walked into our Bamn meeting on Sunday and artist Jay Payne was hard at work on the piece, above. It's a sort of an old-timey (unfinished) portrait of Molly Hammer, one of our recurring characters for Bamn.

You haven't seen Molly since issue #1, but she shall return in issue #3. Her 8 page beatdown on Bamn was far from just a throwaway and she is definitely going to prove to be a major player in future stories.

Conventions A-Go-Go!

On the heels of Baltimore Comic Con, Jay and I are ready for the comic book industry. While, the BCC wasn't all hearts and flowers, it was a surprisingly pleasant reminder that we need to step our game up.
I'm a firm believer in letting things come to you naturally and now seems like the most natural time to start the Comic Con blitz!
We have our sites set on Boston Comic Con, New York Comic Con, Anime USA, the New York Anime Festival, a few conventions in the Clandestine chain, as well as making our return to SPX, The DC Counter Culture Fest, and Baltimore Comic Con (and, yes, we are finally recognizing Jay's Anime influence on the book's art).
Thanks to all the fine folks at Diamond, Third Eye Comics, The Gazette, Alliance Comics, DC Conspiracy and The Examiner for getting us this far...now we got to take the ball and run with it.
It's going down in 2010!
But 2010 is still months away...what do we do in the meantime? Well, I've finishing up Bamn #3 and Jay has been working on some new Crystal Clear art!

See ya next week, turkeys!

Charm City: Reflections on Baltimore Comic Con

As I write this, I'm sitting in the Kubrick-esque trappings of the Mount Vernon Hotel in Baltimore, MD. Day 1 of the Baltimore Comic Con has come to a close, heralded by the hungry hamburger gnashing of my roomates/co-creators (Dave and Jay) as they lazily watch King of Queens.
My virgin attempt at B.C.C. has been a mixed one. The day has been marred by horrid traffic jams caused by an Under Armour marathon (I contemplated revving my car engine at the joggers sprinting by), piss-poor Mapquest directions (I've seen The Wire...It does exist), unchecked hotel expenses ($10 short), and car trouble (Oooooh, I wish I could write this stuff). At this point I expect to pull my hotel bed sheets back and discover lice chewing on the cheap Indian fabric. But, it's about the comics...right?
Right.
Let's pray that Day 2 fairs better. (Day 2 did go better. Baltimore won me over with it's hospitality towards the funnybook community: We made some new friends, saw a free show at Illusions Magic Bar, ate free pizza and beer, went to the Geppi's Entertainment Museum, honked at Ghostbusters heading to their hotel, and reconnected with some old retailer buddies.)
Enjoy the pictures...

Bamn In The Examiner As We Head to Baltimore

Bamn #1

Crystal Clear #1

Bamn #2

Just in time for our arrival at this week's Baltimore Comic Con, Examiner.com has posted an article about Bamn in their Arts and Entertainment section. It's a nice little 2-part interview about how the book came together and how the past year has treated us.
You can read Part 1 by CLICKING HERE.
You can read Part 2 by CLICKING HERE.

As the saying goes, "all publicity is good publicity," especially when we are set to march into The Baltimore Convention Center on October 10th and October 11th.
The Baltimore Comic Con is the biggest convention on the east coast and marks our first foray as dealers on the same floor as the big boys (not counting our brief attempt to drug traffic through Washington, DC).
You can catch us over at Artist's Alley, table number 25.

Here is some bits on what will be available at our table:

Nerds vs. Jocks, Bullies vs. Misfits, the Weak vs. the Strong...Everyone loves a good underdog story, SO LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE! BAMN gets its title from the embittered main character. A surly and washed-up former pro wrestler, Bamn has spent the dying years of his career throwing up in bars. He lives out of his car and uses stolen credit cards to pay for beer. A chance encounter with a pair of local high schoolers, Art and Ian, brings him to the FWF, A backyard wrestling federation ran by the two young fans. When the school’s wrestling squad shows up to bully the kids, Bamn steps in. In a rare moment of clarity he promises all the teenagers that he’s going to teach them the most important thing they will ever learn…HOW TO FIGHT BACK AND LOOK GOOD DOING IT!

Bamn, a fallen pro wrestling superstar, has spent the postscript of his career throwing up in bars and living out of his car.
A chance encounter brings Bamn to a group of teenage fans who have long-idolized the has-been wrestler. Wanting to impress Bamn, the kids invite him to their backyard wrestling show. Unfortunately, the only audience they attract is the group of bullies that comprise their school s amateur wrestling team. Bamn arrives to end a confrontation between the kids and offers to teach the backyarders how to fight back.

The new series (the number of issues is yet to be determined) is about the title character, a promiscuous super heroine who has become a public relations nightmare. Looking to improve her image, her agent calls on a struggling comic book scribe to re-imagine her into a wholesome crusader for truth and justice. They have their work cut out for them.
It's a romantic-comedy with capes, 3 genres that Jay knows and loves (pun intended).
Jay is pulling a grand-slam for this one! He is inking, drawing, and writing this bad bear.
